A Living History

Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1880. Sent by Pope Leo XIII in 1889, she arrived in New York from Italy with a small group of her religious Sisters. Their mission was to minister to the many Italian immigrants living in poverty in the lower Manhattan communities. Mother Cabrini was canonized as America's first Citizen-Saint in 1946 and is lovingly known as the Patron Saint of Immigrants.

For over 125 years, Cabrini programs and institutions have been committed to advancing St. Frances Xavier Cabrini's mission and legacy of healing, teaching, and caring. Cabrini programs and institutions provide services to women, children, immigrants, and the elderly in the United States and around the world.
